Venous ulcers tretment
Venous Ulcers (ulcus venosum) are wounds that are thought to occur due to improper functioning of venous valves, usually of the legs. Venous ulcers develop mostly along the medial distal leg, and can be very painful. Without treatment, venous ulcer is characterized with cyclic opening and healing, and ulcer may become larger and cause problems in the leg. Skin inflammation (dermatitis) sometimes develops around a venous ulcer.
There are several causes of venous leg ulcers; as a result of the superficial venous system diseases, deep venous system and the combination of these two systems and perforating veins.
Diagnosis of venous ulcers is made based on clinical examination and medical history. Yet what is more important is to discover the cause of the ulcer. It is necessary to perform Collor Doppler scann of the superficial, deep venous system and the perforator veins. It is also of extreme importance necessary to exclude the presence of arterial disease.
Surgical treatment have an important role in the venous ulcers treatment. One of the safe and effective methods laser therapy of venous system: under ultrasound control incompetent perforators can be identified and treated. Also, in some cases, the diseased vein perforator can be closed with foam therapy.
There are several recommendations; wear comfortable shoes, weight loss, avoidance of long standing and sitting down with the legs, avoiding the heat and sun, avoiding carrying heavy loads and daily wound bandaging with different type dressing.
